V19N6 - Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Your guide to the East's most memorable, delightful and delicious destinations.

Since 1987, David and Linda Glickstein have published their newsletter, "The Discerning Traveler". They live in Philadelphia.

David and Linda Glickstein gave up careers... to start this superb newsletter. Their reviews cover everything the traveler needs to know: When to go, what to see (especially hard-to-find treasures on back roads), and where to stay, eat, and shop. They suggest itineraries for modest, moderate, and extravagant budgets. They favor B&Bs and country inns. Linda Glickstein says, "If something is negative within a place but most things are good, we'll also put the negative things in."
  -- Condé Nast Traveler

"The Discerning Traveler," the East Coast's premier travel newsletter is a tightly focused, thoroughly researched 16-24 page newsletter (more like a travel journal) to destinations from Quebec to Key West. The Glicksteins do all of the research themselves and spend weeks in the field staying at or extensively inspecting each inn, bed and breakfast, hotel or resort; eating at every restaurant; and visiting the sights that they review.

The authors' research is exhaustive, yielding recommendations that cut across economic and interest lines from elegant inns to modest bed-and-breakfasts, from fancy feasts to simple snacks, and from arts to athletics. Consistent throughout, however, is an adherence to quality in the Glicksteins' aim to give "all the necessary information to experience the heart and soul of a destination."

They always include their opinion of the best rooms at each property. Readers get an insiders' view of the area, including the locals' favorite restaurants, the best craft and art galleries, and directions for backroading with places to stop along the way. Special features for subscribers include:

  • Toll-free number to ask questions about any of the areas covered
  • All back issues are free via email
  • $8 off original bound back issues

The four issues published throughout the year cover one destination each.
